The container transport system
The container transport system is a system for the transport of goods using freight containers (also called standard containers) made of iron.
Containers are manufactured according to standard specifications, transported and stored efficiently over long distances and can also be transported between ships, trains and vehicles without opening them.
Containers are handled by mechanically equipped cranes and all containers are numbered in a standard format that can be easily identified by electronic systems.
Developed after the Second World War, the system helped reduce the cost of transporting goods in a significant way and has clearly contributed to the recovery of the global economic movement after the war.
